How to Thank the Bus Driver in Fortnite (All Platforms)

Do you want to thank the bus driver?

Think about all the times the driver has taken you to the Battle Royale map for free.

Thanking the bus driver does not provide any in-game advantage, but it is good manners.

Anyway thanking the bus driver is simple. All you need to do is press the key or button you use to emote in Fortnite when on the Battle Bus.

Here’s exactly how to thank the bus driver on each platform:

  • PC Players – Press ‘B’ on your keyboard
  • Controller Players (PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch) – Press ‘Down’ on your D-pad
  • Mobile or Tablet Players – Press the ‘Emote’ button in the top right corner of your screen

Obviously, if you’ve changed the keybind you use to emote, you’re going to have to press that key instead.

When you’ve done it correctly you’ll see your Fortnite username appear on your screen (where the kill feed usually is) followed by “has thanked the bus driver”.

For example, when I thank the bus driver it says “Kr4m has thanked the bus driver.”

You can only thank the bus driver when you’re actually on the Battle Bus. In other words, once you’ve jumped from the bus you won’t be able to thank the driver until your next game.

Where did thanking the bus driver come from?

Thanking the bus driver started as a meme that seems to have originated in June 2018.

The premise of the meme is that people who thank the bus driver are better and more successful people in general.

It’s not uncommon for Epic Games to add relevant references and so on to Fortnite. And on August 23 2018 in Patch v5.30 players were granted the ability to thank the bus driver.

But there was no mention of this feature in the patch notes. So players had to figure it out for themselves.
